Sunset Bell Remix on RA Greenhouse Sessions

Love Spirals Downwards’ track “Sunset Bell (Flux Mix)” –featuring vocalist Jennifer Wilde– was just featured by Resident Advisor  as part of an RA Greenhouse Session curated by Ciel, closing out the Toronto artist’s set on an epic note. Known for her “tripped-out grooves” and “spacy, slippery melodies,” Ciel delivered a performance described by RA as “jazzy, atmospheric downtempo with plenty of low-end.”

Established in 2001, Resident Advisor is the world’s premier online music magazine and community platform dedicated to electronic music. Through its global reach and influential editorial voice, RA has become a primary tastemaker for the underground, showcasing the intersection of culture, art, and dance music. The Greenhouse Sessions is a specialized video series filmed canal-side at the magazine’s London headquarters, designed to allow top-tier DJs and live acts to experiment outside their usual club sounds, often exploring the deeper, more contemplative corners of their record collections.

Cindy Li aka Ciel is a highly influential figure in the contemporary electronic scene, co-founding the It’s Not U It’s Me collective and earning a reputation for versatile sets that span from breaks to tech-house. This session highlights her more organic, atmospheric side, placing “Sunset Bell” alongside works by experimental legends like Coil, The Durutti Column, and The Sabres of Paradise –remixed by Portishead.

Love Spirals Contribute to Falling You ‘Metanoia’

It’s been eight years since ambient musician John Zorko last released an album under his Falling You collective, but he’s finally returned with a new full-length inspired by the myths of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

John first reached out to Anji Lum in 2023 to contribute lyrics and vocals to a track for the project. As Anji explained in  Chillin’ with Lovespirals Episode 101, she initially struggled with how to approach the material before ultimately embracing the story of Philomena. The imagery of a woman turned caged nightingale, using birdsong to achieve personal liberation and vindication, felt especially fitting for the album’s theme. Her blend of original lyrics sung in a soothing lower register with spoken passages drawn from Sir Samuel Garth’s 1717 English translation of Ovid, bridges the modern and the archaic.

LSD featured on Topher Mix

A laptop DJ set by Topher — originally performed June 7, 2006 at Café Des Arts in Nice, France — has just surfaced on Mixcloud. Called Ambient Journey Into IDM & Glitchy Breaks Mix, the first of two parts includes Love Spirals Downwards alongside tracks by Lexaunculpt, Kid 606, The Orb, Autechre, Kraftwerk, and others. It looks like this recording may have initially circulated through Topher’s netlabel Aries Slant Recordings as a direct-download 320 kbps MP3 file, but this is the first time we’ve encountered it.

The 1994 Ardor version of “Sunset Bell (feat. Jennifer Ryan Fuller)” appears here, cross-mixed with Kid 606’s “Soniqizzmaster.” Interestingly, back in January 1999, Kid 606 and Ryan both appeared at Sterile, a cool Costa Mesa event put on by KUCI DJ 9-5 Superspy, who also included “Nova” by Love Spirals Downwards on the 1998 2xCD KUCI benefit compilation Loraine alongside Lexaunculpt, who also appears in this mix. Small world!
